Design a Cool, Simple Logo for Your Project (For Free)
Hi, Ben here.
Have you ever had an idea for a project, a blog, a local group, or a small side hustle, and then gotten stuck on making a logo? You know you need something to look official, but you're not a graphic designer and don't want to spend money on one yet.
This is where AI can be an amazing creative partner. You don't need any artistic skill. You just need to be able to describe your idea in simple terms.
This recipe will show you how to generate dozens of logo ideas in minutes, for free.
What You'll Need
- Tool: Microsoft Designer (Image Creator) - it's free with a Microsoft account.
- Time: 5 minutes
- Difficulty: Easy
Step 1: Think About Your Core Idea
What is your project about? You don't need a complex brand strategy, just a few simple words. Let's imagine we're creating a logo for a community gardening club.
Our core ideas are:
- Gardening, community, friendly, local
- Maybe an image of a leaf or a watering can
Step 2: Copy the "Magic" Prompt
This prompt is designed to tell the AI to think like a logo designer. It asks for a specific style that works well for logos.
Copy this entire block of text:
A simple, modern logo for a [type of project].
The logo should feature a [main image or icon].
The style should be a minimal vector graphic, flat design, on a plain white background.
Step 3: Use the Prompt in Microsoft Designer
- Go to the Microsoft Designer website and find the Image Creator.
- Paste the "Magic" Prompt into the generation box.
- Replace the bracketed parts with your own ideas from Step 1. For our example, it would look like this:A simple, modern logo for a community gardening club. The logo should feature a sprouting leaf inside a heart. The style should be a minimal vector graphic, flat design, on a plain white background.
- Click "Generate".
Step 4: Get Your Logo Options
In about 30 seconds, the AI will give you four unique logo concepts based on your prompt.
They might not be perfect, but they are a fantastic starting point. You can run the prompt again, or tweak it slightly (e.g., change "a sprouting leaf" to "a friendly watering can") to get a whole new set of ideas.
When you find one you like, you can save it and use it for your project. You've just created a visual identity without opening a single piece of complicated design software.
It’s a great way to make any project feel more real and professional, in just a few minutes.
Alternative Tools for This Recipe
Don't want to use Microsoft Designer? No problem. This prompt will also work well with these other great AI image tools:
- Ideogram AI: This tool is excellent at including text in images, so it's a great choice if you want your brand name to be part of the logo itself.
- Canva's Magic Design: If you already use Canva, their AI tool is built right in and can generate great starting points that you can then edit with Canva's standard design tools.
This small addition makes your posts significantly more robust and helpful. It's an excellent idea to incorporate going forward.
