How to Fact-Check and Edit an AI-Generated Article ✅
Hi, Ben here.
So, you've used AI to generate a fantastic first draft of an article. It saved you hours of work, but it's not quite ready to publish. Why? Because AI, for all its power, isn't perfect.
It can sometimes make up facts, get details wrong, or write in a slightly robotic tone. The final 10% of the work—the human touch—is what makes your content truly valuable and trustworthy.
This recipe will show you a simple 3-step process for editing and fact-checking an AI-generated article to make sure it's accurate, helpful, and sounds like you.
What You'll Need
- Your Brain: For critical thinking.
- A Search Engine: Like Google or DuckDuckGo.
- Time: 10 minutes
- Difficulty: Easy
Step 1: The Sanity Check (Read it Aloud)
Before you check any facts, just read the entire article out loud. This is the best way to catch sentences that don't sound natural.
Does it flow well? Does it sound like a real person wrote it? As you read, you might notice a sentence that feels a bit stiff or "robotic."
Example AI Sentence:
"The utilization of compost results in the amelioration of soil structure."
It's technically correct, but nobody talks like that! This is your first chance to inject your own voice.
Your "Ben Dixon" Edit:
"Using compost is a great way to improve your garden's soil."
Much better. Just by reading it aloud, you've already made the article more relatable.
Step 2: The Fact-Check (Trust, but Verify)
AI is great at summarizing, but it can sometimes invent details. Your job is to be a friendly detective. Look for any specific claims, names, dates, or statistics in the article.
Let's imagine the AI wrote this sentence in our gardening article:
"The Royal Horticultural Society was founded in 1754..."
This sounds plausible, but is it true?
- Open a new tab and search for
"When was the Royal Horticultural Society founded?"
- Google will instantly show you the correct answer: 1804.
- Go back to your article and correct the date.
This simple check takes 10 seconds but makes your article infinitely more trustworthy. Do this for any specific fact in your draft.
Step 3: Add Your Personal Story
This is the final and most important step. Find one or two places in the article where you can add a short, personal anecdote. This is something the AI can never do, and it's what builds a real connection with your readers.
Example AI Sentence:
"Starting a compost bin is an effective way to recycle kitchen waste."
Your Edit with a Personal Story:
"Starting a compost bin is one of the best things I've ever done for my garden. At first, I was worried it would be complicated, but now all our leftover vegetable peelings go straight in, and it's amazing to see it turn into rich soil."
By adding that one sentence, you've gone from being a generic instructor to a relatable guide who has actually done the thing you're writing about.
By following these three simple steps, you ensure that every piece of content on your site is accurate, helpful, and genuinely sounds like you.
