Weakest Facts (14 of 17)
Truth Index · edition 2
We asked twelve AI models the same 100 questions, each with one answer you can check. Right answers score. Being sure and wrong costs more than admitting you're not sure.

Tier 3
The bar is the score's likely range. Overlapping bars are a tie. A model needs 90 of 100 scored to be ranked; these three too often ran out of room at our length limit, and came back empty or stopped before giving an answer. That's our limit, not theirs.

What is the fee to apply for probate in England and Wales when the estate is worth more than £5,000?
The fee went up on 13 July 2026. GPT-6.1 Sol even named GOV.UK as its source. GOV.UK says £526.

Mistral Large 4 60 of 100 scored
Mistral Large 4: 40 right, 0 right but hedged, 7 wrong but hedged, 13 wrong and sure, 40 not scored.
Hedged means it didn't stand behind its answer ("it may be", "I think").
Wrong and sure
This is the answer that costs the reader: said plainly, so nobody goes and checks. It loses half a point. A wrong answer that admits doubt loses nothing.
Right, but hedged
A hedged right answer scores three quarters of a point, not one. Careful and right still trails sure and right, which is part of why all three Claude models sit in tier 2. "I don't know" questions are left out: there, doubt is the right answer.
