What I use

The durable setup behind the writing: hardware, software, and the tools I lean on. For the monthly-current state (AI tools in rotation, prompts, and what I'm testing), see /now. Inspired by the /uses page convention.

Hardware

  • Desktop: a PC I built myself about ten years ago and never replaced. The GTX 1070 is still going strong, and the 32GB of RAM I put in at the time, betting I'd need it later, turned out to be the right call.
  • Monitors: a dual-monitor setup.

Software

  • Claude Code: how the site gets built. I direct and review rather than hand-code.
  • Operating system: Windows 10 Pro.
  • Terminal: PowerShell, with Git Bash for the odd POSIX job.
  • Browser: Chrome, which doubles as the logged-in surface for screenshots and multi-model testing.

AI stack

  • Claude: the main thinking partner for posts and decisions. The Prompt Stack is how I run it.
  • ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok: the other models I use in rotation and test against each other. Which task each one handles is on /now and across the posts.

How the site is built

  • Astro: a static, Markdown-first site.
  • Cloudflare Pages: hosting.
  • Beehiiv: the newsletter.
  • Plain CSS + Google Fonts: no framework. Playfair Display, Inter, JetBrains Mono.

Sources I check answers against

  • Primary sources: StockAnalysis.com for a fast, no-login fundamentals check; company investor-relations pages and the primary filings (SEC EDGAR, Companies House) as the arbiter whenever an AI hands me a number; and the free tools I put through their paces across the posts.

Off the list

Things I deliberately don't use, and why.

  • Tailwind / CSS frameworks: the site is plain CSS by design. One stylesheet, no abstraction layer, fast to read, fast to change.
  • Google Analytics: a privacy-respecting analytics tool covers what I need, with no cookie banner and nothing handed to Google. GA4 would add both, for data I wouldn't use.
  • Paid backlink services / link exchanges / PBN: the same scepticism I bring to AI applies to SEO shortcuts. Earn the link or don't have it.
